The umbrella organisation
The African-German Working Community, or Afrikanisch-Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft e. V. (A.D.A.G.E.), is a development policy umbrella organization with 18 member associations in 11 German cities - Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, Frankfurt am Main, Langen, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Potsdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich - in 7 federal states. There are cooperations with organisations in Aachen, Cologne and Bonn.
The members of A.D.A.G.E. work with federal states and municipalities in Germany and are operational in 50 cities in 17 African countries. A.D.A.G.E. is networked worldwide through the Civil Society Mechanism of the International Migration Review Forum and the Global Forum for Migration and Development and has been cooperating in trust with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for several years.
The association positions itself as a knowledge-based umbrella organization, as a pioneer, source of inspiration, and source of ideas and talent in development cooperation. It builds trust between stakeholders, generates and disseminates new knowledge, and strengthens the operational capabilities of actors engaged in development policy. The work of the umbrella organization benefits all actors in civil society.
A.D.A.G.E. is registered under number VR 39913 B in the register of associations of the Charlottenburg District Court in Berlin. The latest exemption notice from the Berlin tax office is dated November 15, 2022.

The idea is to strengthen civil society
Anyone who wants to change something for the better often has to act outside established institutions and be able to promote their cause in associations, initiatives, platforms or social networks. This civil society engagement requires not only good will but also specialist knowledge. It is not easy to mediate between public and private institutions, between hierarchies and between cultures of action. A.D.A.G.E. supports thematic networks and alliances at local, national and transnational levels. We design and facilitate new partnerships.
